Registrations now open for LIVIANA 2026

Bright collage of LIVIANA 2026

The Community Economies Research Network (CERN) is holding its seventh LIVIANA International Online Conference, 2 to 13 November 2026. The program has now been released and registrations are open.

LIVIANA is a decentralised and FREE series of exchanges and symposia that runs for two weeks, providing an opportunity for CERN members (and others) to connect and share.

The event is based on the sense of openness, free-floating train of thought, and cheerful spirit that the Spanish term liviana connotes.

Two exciting keynotes start each week. Week 1 starts with The transformative potential of Indigenous economic practices, presented on Monday 2 November by Matthew Scobie (Kāi Tahu), Georgia McLellan (Whakatōhea & Ngāi Te Rangi) and Jack Barrett (Ngāpuhi).

Week 2 starts with Transgenerational and transgeographical commoning and learning: Ongoing healing practices and ethical frames | Aprendizajes transgeneracionales y transgeográficos. Marcos éticos en práctica(s), presented on Monday 9 November by Ana Inés Heras. This keynote will be in English with translation to Spanish.

Alongside the two keynotes, there are twenty sessions covering topics such as:

  • Beyond philanthropy? The role of surplus in community economies
  • Dry stone walls and the commons
  • ‘How to become a fox’: Community economies thinking put to creative practice
  • Metodologías para la justicia epistémica en el trabajo de comunes bioculturales en territorios indígenas y campesinos del Sur Global | Methodologies for epistemic justice in the work of biocultural commons in indigenous and peasant territories of the Global South
  • Mobilising for urban food production
  • More-than-human communities and climate adaptation
  • Rethinking commoning communities through social power: The case of Bâtiment 7
  • Teaching DE/CE/SE to college students as a radical intervention

All sessions are free. Most will be recorded and available on the Community Economies Institute YouTube Channel.

Most sessions are in English, some are in Spanish and some are multilingual (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Te Reo Māori).
