Research Interests

As President of the Island Institute, Rob is responsible for working with island and coastal leaders, in Maine and around the world, to identify innovative approaches to community sustainability. 

With a background and Ph.D. in cultural anthropology, Rob’s research and writing focus on community economic development and the cultural politics of natural resource management. He has conducted research on these topics in Maine, the Rocky Mountain states, Costa Rica, and China.
